EOC: How To Make it in America
To create a brand, you need a little more than
ambition. There’s SO much that goes into
doing something so big. You must first,
notice that there’s a need to be met, you need to figure out how you can meet
this need, how you can stay in front of your competitors, how you plan to stick
out from the rest. You must KNOW what it
is that you bring to the table that will offer you longevity. You must know how to evolve as the times
change. These things you must know,
along with the logistics. These things
will assist you in meeting a need that hasn’t been met. “Many people view branding as simply creating
an identity for a company composed of a logo, a name and an identifiable style.
Yet branding is much more than this. It encompasses both the visual and
tangible elements of the brand, as well as the emotional and intangible pieces
that create a connection between the brand and the consumer.” (More Than A Name
By Melissa Davis, Pg. 12)
The two guys in “How To Make It In America” had already made
an attempt at business, but it was a failed attempt. They were both ambitious, in their own ways,
but one of them seemed a little defeated.
I feel that when they both were settled on the RIGHT idea and the RIGHT opportunity,
that they both have what it takes to create the brand. The drive and hunger was evident. What one lacked in one area, the other picked
up. They were told by another character
to “Stop coming to me with ideas, and put those ideas into action, and I will
help you”. Sometimes, an idea is not
enough. At that point, they hadn’t done
enough. But when one puts work behind an
idea, magic can be made. I think that
was the best advice they were given.
EOC: My Voice
When you LOVE to do something, you don’t need the recognition. The looks of awe and excitement on the faces of people who watch the final result is acknowledgement enough for me. I love to put things together. I love to create a plan. I love the process, even the stress of the process, of making that plan come to life. I love the feeling I get when all of that hard work from that plan pays off. I love to create. I LOVE FASHION. In the past I have made things for friends and family that they loved. I made things for myself that I loved. Fashion is happiness to me and I love using fashion to make others happy. Visual merchandising allows one to create a picture of a brand to the world, so that the world knows WHO and WHAT this brand stands for. I want to be the one who shows people what they love, or what they can come to love. I want to show them the many ways to wear and display their personalities through fashion, to the world. I want to eventually create an emotional attachment to those things; to a brand. I want to do something that will impact others, as well as something that I am passionate about. Happy people make me happy, and beautiful things make people happy. I want to make beautiful things for happy people.
